Biblical Truths for Biblical Healing Series: Inflammation Part 4

Welcome back to our series, "Biblical Truths for Biblical Healing."

In this segment, we venture into the heart of our physical well-being – our daily sustenance aka food. We will introduce an anti-inflammatory meal plan rooted in biblical principles, highlighting the importance of nourishing our bodies for healing and overall well-being.

Please note, that many would use the word diet instead of meal plan, but at Empowered by Nature Wellness Center, we focus on HEALth instead of DIEt. At Empowered by Nature Wellness Center, we use meal plan for HEALthy foods, God-centered foods. We also focus on lifestyle changes as well, and food plays a huge role. Let's dive back into this segment.

Food as Medicine: A Biblical Perspective

The Bible contains numerous references to the importance of food in maintaining health. In the Garden of Eden, God provided Adam and Eve with a bounty of fruits and vegetables, emphasizing the natural abundance of nourishing foods (Genesis 1:29). As we explore an anti-inflammatory meal plan, we draw inspiration from this divine provision.

The Anti-Inflammatory Meal Plan: A Biblical Blueprint

An anti-inflammatory meal plan focuses on reducing foods that trigger inflammation while increasing those with anti-inflammatory properties. Here's a biblical approach to this dietary journey:

1. Fruits and Vegetables:

   - Biblical Inspiration: Genesis 1:29 reminds us of God's initial dietary plan, which included fruits and vegetables.

   - Incorporate: Aim to fill half your plate with colorful fruits and vegetables. They are rich in antioxidants and phytochemicals that combat inflammation.

2. Whole Grains:

   - Biblical Inspiration: The Bible mentions grains like wheat and barley throughout its pages. Please note, that the grains we have now vs. back in the time the Bible was written are COMPLETLY different. Now it is filled with lots of chemicals and often isn't the same makeup of how it was originally created. With this change, it needs to also be noted that for some, grains do cause inflammation.

   - Incorporate: Choose whole grains like brown rice, and whole wheat bread for their fiber and nutrients.

3. Healthy Fats:

-Biblical Inspiration: Olive oil, a staple in the Mediterranean diet and rich in monounsaturated fats, is often referenced in the Bible.

-Incorporate: Use olive oil for cooking and as a salad dressing. Incorporate sources of omega-3 fatty acids like flaxseeds, walnuts, and fatty fish like salmon.

4. Lean Protein:

-Biblical Inspiration: The Bible mentions clean meats like fish, poultry, and certain livestock.

-Incorporate: Choose lean protein sources such as skinless poultry, fish, beans, and legumes.

5. Herbs and Spices:

   - Biblical Inspiration: The Bible mentions various herbs and spices like mint, cumin, and coriander.

   - Incorporate: Flavor your dishes with herbs and spices like turmeric, ginger, and garlic, known for their anti-inflammatory properties. If using spices, make sure that there isn't any added sugar or chemicals.

6. Nuts and Seeds:

   - Biblical Inspiration: Almonds and pistachios are referenced in the Bible.

-Incorporate: Snack on unsalted nuts and seeds, which provide healthy fats, fiber, and protein.

7. Hydration:

-Biblical Inspiration: Water is frequently mentioned as a symbol of life, purification, and renewal in the Bible.

-Incorporate: Stay hydrated with water, herbal teas, and fresh fruit-infused water.

8. Moderation and Gratitude:

-Biblical Inspiration: The Bible advises us to eat with gratitude and in moderation (1 Corinthians 10:31).

-Incorporate: Practice mindful eating, savoring each bite with thankfulness.
