Biblical Truth Chronic Inflammation blog series

In this segment, we venture into the heart of physical well-being—our daily sustenance, also known as food. At Empowered by Nature Wellness Center, we emphasize a God-centered meal plan rooted in biblical nutrition principles. Here, food is more than fuel—it’s medicine, nourishment for healing, and a key component of holistic wellness.

Please note, while many may use the word “diet,” at Empowered by Nature Wellness Center, we focus on HEALth instead of DIEt. Our meal plans prioritize healthy foods, God-centered nutrition, and sustainable lifestyle changes where food plays a crucial role in reducing inflammation and restoring vitality. Let’s dive deeper.

Food as Medicine: A Biblical Perspective

The Bible highlights the importance of food in maintaining health and wellness. In the Garden of Eden, God provided Adam and Eve with a bounty of fruits and vegetables, emphasizing the natural abundance of nourishing foods (Genesis 1:29). Drawing from this divine provision, our anti-inflammatory meal plan takes inspiration from biblical principles, emphasizing the healing power of God-centered foods.

The Anti-Inflammatory Meal Plan: A Biblical Blueprint

An anti-inflammatory meal plan reduces foods that trigger inflammation while increasing those rich in anti-inflammatory properties. Here’s a Spirit-led, biblical approach to this healing journey:

  1. Fruits and Vegetables
    • Biblical Inspiration: Genesis 1:29 reminds us of God’s initial dietary provision of fruits and vegetables.
    • Incorporate: Fill half your plate with colorful, nutrient-dense fruits and vegetables, rich in antioxidants and phytochemicals that combat inflammation and support holistic wellness.
  2. Whole Grains
    • Biblical Inspiration: The Bible references grains like wheat and barley. Note that modern grains differ from biblical times, often processed and chemically treated, which can contribute to inflammation for some individuals.
    • Incorporate: Choose whole grains such as brown rice, quinoa, and whole wheat bread for fiber, vitamins, and minerals that support digestive health.
  3. Healthy Fats
    • Biblical Inspiration: Olive oil, a staple in biblical diets, is rich in monounsaturated fats.
    • Incorporate: Use olive oil for cooking and salad dressings. Include omega-3-rich foods like flaxseeds, walnuts, and fatty fish such as salmon to support heart and brain health.
  4. Lean Protein
    • Biblical Inspiration: Scripture references clean meats, including fish and poultry.
    • Incorporate: Focus on lean protein sources such as skinless poultry, fish, beans, and legumes, providing building blocks for cellular repair and overall wellness.
  5. Herbs and Spices
    • Biblical Inspiration: Herbs and spices like mint, cumin, and coriander are mentioned in the Bible.
    • Incorporate: Flavor meals with anti-inflammatory herbs and spices such as turmeric, ginger, and garlic, ensuring they are free of added sugar or chemicals.
  6. Nuts and Seeds
    • Biblical Inspiration: Almonds and pistachios are celebrated in Scripture.
    • Incorporate: Snack on unsalted nuts and seeds, delivering healthy fats, fiber, and protein for sustained energy and cellular health.
  7. Hydration
    • Biblical Inspiration: Water represents life, purification, and renewal.
    • Incorporate: Drink water, herbal teas, and fruit-infused water to stay hydrated and support detoxification and overall wellness.
  8. Moderation and Gratitude
    • Biblical Inspiration: 1 Corinthians 10:31 reminds us to eat with gratitude and moderation.
    • Incorporate: Practice mindful eating, savoring every bite with thankfulness, which enhances digestion and overall healing.
